On the eve of Power Engineer’s Day, on the morning of December 18, workers of energy companies of the Donetsk People’s Republic observed a minute of silence and laid bouquets of fresh flowers in tribute to the memory of their colleagues who were killed in the line of duty during hostilities. According to a correspondent of the DPR Official Website, this requiem rally took place by the Memorial In the Memory of Fallen Electricians, which was raised two years ago in the square on Shevchenko Boulevard in Donetsk.

“Today we have gathered to honor the memory of our colleagues who gave their lives for the sake of our Republic. Until recently, an electrician was considered a totally peaceful profession, but since 2014 the situation has changed dramatically. The men died in the line of duty, fixing damaged schools and kindergartens, restoring our energy sector. They gave their lives for us, for our Republic,” acting Deputy Minister for Coal and Energy of the DPR Konstantin Zabiyako said.

Taras Koval, the First Deputy Director General of the Regional Energy Supplying Company Republic Enterprise, said, “It has become a good tradition to remember our friends on the eve of Power Engineer’s Day. They were not performing heroic feats, they just were doing their job,” he said.

Since 2014, eight electricians have been killed in the line of duty in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Their families, friends, colleagues and residents of the city laid flowers at the Memorial to Fallen Electricians.
