On Monday of January 13, bench press absolute world record holder Maryana Naumova paid a humanitarian visit to children of the frontline districts of the Republic. According to the correspondent of the DPR Official Website, the event was organized with the assistance of the DPR Public Chamber.

The event was also attended by DPR Public Chamber’s Deputy Chairperson for Economic Affairs Ekaterina Martyanova and Head of the Donetsk’s Petrovsky District Council Maxim Zhukovsky.

In the course of the meeting, the famous Russian athlete and a representative of the DPR Public Chamber visited school No. 108 in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, to which they transferred sports equipment. Along with that, as part of the event, school students held a Peace to Donbass children’s and youth tournament in Russian bench press in memory of Alexander Zakharchenko. The competition was held among boys and girls in three age categories — students of elementary, middle and senior classes. Winners and prize winners were awarded tournament diplomas and prizes. Besides, all students were given sweets as presents from the organizers.

In addition, Maryana Naumova and Ekaterina Martyanova visited the Istoki [The Origins] school museum, the exposition of which included household items of the 20th century.

“We must remember our heroes, which is why the tournament is dedicated to Alexander Zakharchenko. My main goal is to meet with children and introduce them to sports, because it is through sports that one can achieve great success, see the world, achieve his or her goal,” Maryana Naumova said.

According to Deputy Chairperson of the DPR Public Chamber Ekaterina Martyanova, in the course the tour, the Russian athlete will visit several schools in the frontline districts of the Republic.

“Her arrival is very important for us, as the children are very eager to talk with her and ask the questions of interest to them. Her visits have a fruitful effect on children, on the formation of their worldview, on their life. Thus, many children go in for sports after talking with Maryana Naumova. Her mission is also of humanitarian character, since during the visit she has brought sports equipment to schools located in the frontline districts of the Republic,” Ekaterina Martyanova said.

She also emphasized that the attention and support of the fraternal Russian people are of great importance for the residents of the Republic.

In turn, Head of the Council of the Petrovsky District of Donetsk Maxim Zhukovsky added that the visits of Maryana Naumova had already become a good tradition for residents of the Donetsk People’s Republic, and the record holder is a prime example for the younger generation of the state.

Besides, during the visit to the Luganskoye rural cultural and sports center, the world champion in powerlifting met with children living in the frontline village of Luganskoye.
