Ukraine unilaterally opened a checkpoint for a limited time, in the hot sun, which was a set-up, DPR foreign Minister Natalya Nikonorova stated on June 10 during the briefing.

“That was not done for the citizens’ sake in any way! Given the information that we received from the Minister of Health about the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic and in the DPR territory that is still controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, we realize that the opening of borders is not reasonable today. All this time the authorities of Donetsk People’s Republic have been handling the situation, but an emergency regime has been introduced in the Ukraine-controlled territory and it has not been removed yet. We have to take care, first of all, about the life and health of our citizens,” she said.

Natalya Nikonorova noted that there are also humanitarian aspects when closing the borders, when people really need to cross the line of contact in one or another direction (for example, acute diseases, family reunification).

“It is for this reason that we have long been seeking from the Ukrainian party to agree on the date, the order of organization of a humanitarian corridor. However, Ukraine refused, and what we have seen today – I cannot call it anything but abuse of people,” Nikonorova said.

During the briefing in Donetsk, the DPR Foreign Minister addressed all the residents of Donbass on both sides of the delimitation line.

“I ask you to pay attention to official sources of information before taking any action or go somewhere,” Natalya Nikonorova stressed.
