Krupskaya Republic Universal Research Library of Donetsk held an event to honor the memory of journalists who were killed in the line of duty, a correspondent of the Official Website of the Donetsk People’s Republic reported on December 13. The event was attended by journalists of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Russian Federation, as well as students from Donetsk National University.
“The work of war correspondents and journalists in the combat zone is no less heroic than the work of the military on the front line. In the conditions of modern information technologies, the truthful information that comes from the war zone is especially important. Reporters convey the reality of the war and write history with their facts,” DPR First Deputy Minister of Information Daniil Bezsonov said.
The event featured a documentary film named “When the Truth is More Precious than Life…” made by specialists of the DPR Information Ministry.
“Now we have learned a lot, our men work jointly with the military and have all the means of protection. But then, five years ago, the best of them died: Anatoly Klyan, Vsevolod Petrovsky and others. We learned from them. And we should always remember them,” Chairman of the DPR Journalists’ Union Viktor Petrenko stressed.
Remembrance Day of journalists who died in the line of duty has been celebrated in Russia since 1991 annually on December 15 at the initiative of the Russian Journalists’ Union. Its goal is to remind of what contribution journalists make to the development of society given that their profession has always been among the most dangerous ones.
