The representative of Ukraine to the political subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, Alexei Reznikov, said that Kiev will insist on the revision of the Minsk Agreements. In particular, their implementation is proposed to be reduced to a formula that will include only five items: the disarmament of the DPR and LPR armed units and their subsequent withdrawal from the Donbass territory, the introduction of a silence regime and Ukrainian control over the border, as well as local elections. Head of the Central Executive Committee of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement Alexei Muratov commented on this decision.
“As we can see, Kiev proposes to exclude all the Minsk Agreements’ political block items, which are intended to provide guarantees for the parties to the conflict. It is clear that this will lead to subsequent filtration measures, deportation and prosecution of residents of the Donbass Republics. Such scenarios are already being actively elaborated by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, politicians and officials openly cynically declare this, and right-wing radicals are preparing for violent “reintegration” — the genocide of the local population.
There are doubts concerning the adequacy of President Zelensky and his team if they are seriously considering the possibility that the DPR and LPR will allow this. The defenders of Donbass have defended with arms in their hands the right to independently determine their future and, if necessary, will again remind Kiev of the degrading conditions of major military defeats, under which Ukraine was forced to sign the Minsk Agreements.
The leaders of the Normandy Four leaders, including President Zelensky, confirmed by their signatures at the summit in Paris their lack of alternative for the establishment of peace and a civilized settlement of the conflict. The need to implement the Minsk Agreements is enshrined in a UN Security Council resolution. It is obvious to the international community that any attempt to revise them will return the negotiation process to the starting line, setting it back years.
Therefore, Kiev should stop speculating on this topic, and proceed to the consistent implementation of the Minsk Agreements in the form in which they were concluded. There is no other way!” Muratov said.
