There are provocative calls on the Ukrainian side. Just recently, deputy secretary of the NSDC Krivonos declared that they needed to implement the Croatian scenario in the territory of Donbass, and the other day leader of the National Corps Andrey Biletsky during one of the radio broadcasts suggested using Israeli strategies against the residents of the region, chief of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement’s Central Executive Committee Alexey Muratov commented on the statements.
“By this statement, the odious politician means an increase in socio-economic pressure, namely, the temporary closure of checkpoints to strengthen the trade blockade, as well as the stoppage of electricity and water supplies. This should allegedly create internal pressure on the authorities of the republics, which, according to Biletsky, will deliver Donbass into the clutches of the Ukrainian government. Such proposals demonstrate the complete incapacity of the Ukrainian politicians.
First, the Donetsk People’s Republic is an exporter of electricity, so if due to infrastructural peculiarities such actions lead to temporary difficulties, they will be addressed within the shortest possible time. Second, the stoppage of water supply will also affect the population and especially the enterprises in Mariupol, which will stir up protest moods in the city already tired of the Ukrainian occupation. Third, the Donbass Republics, which have already experienced the pressure and unpredictability of Ukraine, will do well without this share of imports, which no longer plays a fundamental role.
Thus, Biletsky’s proposal is untenable and proves only his incompetence. This kind of populism, which is typical in all Maidan spawns, is extremely provocative and demonstrates the weakness of the Ukrainian side.
International partners have long defined the Minsk Agreements as the only and irreplaceable way to resolve the conflict in Donbass. Therefore, no matter how boastful the Ukrainian politicians are, Zelensky has to fulfill the commitments, or a new team will do that in his stead,” Alexey Muratov said.
