On January 28, the Council of the Budyonnovsky District Council of Donetsk hosted a special event dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, organized as part of the long-term Echo of the Times project, the Donetsk Republic PM’s press service reports.
The event was attended by Head of the Budyonnovsky District Council and Secretary of the DRPM’s local branch Vladimir Getov, deputy of the People’s Council of the Donetsk People’s Republic Oksana Sigidina, prisoners of fascist concentration camps Maria Melnikova, Olga Pedorenko and Maria Shakhova, representatives of public organizations, and students of the district’s municipal general education establishments.
In the course of the event, those present discussed the persecution and mass extermination of various ethnic and social groups’ representatives by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War, drew a historical parallel with the war in Donbass, and watched a number of short documentaries about the tragic developments of those years.
“Today we have gathered to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust, the victims of Nazism and once again recall this tragic lesson in history. We must pass on this pain and memory of those irreparable losses to our children in order to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future,” Vladimir Getov said, after which the participants of the event observed a moment of silence in memory of the Holocaust victims.
At the end of the event, as a sign of respect, appreciation and gratitude to those who travelled the roads of war, thanks to whom we enjoy the opportunity to live, study and work under peaceful skies, who represent striking examples of courage, perseverance, patriotism, faithful service to the Motherland, and inexhaustible optimism and diligence, the invited veterans were presented with food packages from the Donetsk Republic Public Movement.
