During his visit to Poland, Ukrainian president Zelensky blamed the Soviet Union for unleashing the World War II on a par with Germany, DPR People’s Council deputy Vladimir Medvedev commented on this statement.
“Obviously, the Ukrainian president does not fully realize what he said. The Soviet Union gave Ukraine its western lands after the Polish state ceased to exist. And there were no claims from the international community in this regard.
However, if Mr. Zelensky now believes that the territories of Western Ukraine were taken away from Poland because of the collusion of the totalitarian states, the logical continuation of this line will be the return of the lands back to Poland. Such political shortsightedness may come at a cost to Ukraine.
The so-called desovietization has brought nothing but shame and disappointment to the ordinary people. Continuing this policy directly threatens Ukraine’s territorial integrity, since the state with its existing borders was created within the USSR, and many territories were given to it in Soviet times. Therefore, Zelensky either manifests blatant incompetence or intentionally pursues the policy of destroying Ukraine as a state,” the parliamentarian stressed.
