The land sale law in Ukraine was passed amid measures to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic with violations of the current Ukrainian legislation. One of the violations lies in the fact that the law, which is being considered on a scheduled basis, cannot be passed at an extraordinary session, Chairman of the Svobodny Donbass Public Movement and Deputy Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Committee on Criminal and Administrative Legislation Vladimir Medvedev stated.
“It comes obvious that such a decision was made to please the IMF, since it was this condition Ukraine had to meet in order to receive a tranche of $1.5 billion. Several political parties opposed the adoption of this law because they understand that even local oligarchs will have to give up land in favour of foreign land merchants. The situation can get severely complicated as the Ukrainian oligarchs will bend every effort to block this law’s entry into force and oppose its field implementation.
The escalation of social tension may result in a new round of the armed conflict in Donbass. Zelensky and his team can trigger another aggravation with a view to divert attention from the problems related to the conflict over the land market. The possibility of default in Ukraine due to the deplorable state of its economy cannot be ruled out either. The adventurous policy of the new president of Ukraine has brought the country to the brink of a large-scale crisis, which the Kiev regime is simply unable to manage,” Vladimir Medvedev said.
