On Saturday of April 11, the International Day of Fascist Concentration Camps Prisoners Liberation, Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin laid flowers at the Eternal Flame of the Monument to the Victims of Fascism in the Leninsky district of Donetsk.
As will be recalled, this date was set in memory of the Buchenwald concentration camp prisoners’ uprising. On this day, the whole world pays tribute to the dead and surviving prisoners of fascist concentration camps, marking the day of their liberation.
During the occupation of Donbass, concentration camps were operating in Gorlovka, Ilovaisk, Kramatorsk, Makeyevka, Mariupol, Slaviansk, and Torez. In the concentration camp for Soviet prisoners of war in the territory of the Donetsk Palace of Culture of Metallurgists alone there were held more than 25 thousand people. A monument to the victims of fascism was erected on this site in 1965 to commemorate those who had perished there.
