Today, on April 17, Head of the DPR Denis Pushilin delivered an address to the citizens of the Republic and announced a postponement of festive events on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory and the sixth anniversary of the Donetsk People’s Republic due to the threat of coronavirus proliferation.
“We many times raised the issue of greatest concern to all of us about the format of celebrating Victory Day and Republic Day, and repeatedly discussed the possibility of conducting an Immortal Regiment procession.
Unfortunately, the threat of coronavirus proliferation is still very likely and we cannot endanger the lives and health of our citizens. Aware of all the dangers of this situation, it has been decided to postpone the festivities on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. As soon as the situation stabilizes, the military parade and procession of the Immortal Regiment will take place.
We will certainly conduct all the events planned for the Year of the Great Victory. Of course, no veteran of the Great Patriotic War will go unheeded. It is our duty to the generation of winners.
In addition, due to the high readiness regime in the Donetsk People’s Republic, significant adjustments will be made in terms of celebrating the sixth anniversary of the Donetsk People’s Republic. We will celebrate May 11 without mass events this year.
Dear friends! I am sure that you will accept such emergency measures understandingly and approvingly. At the moment, we need to team up to counteract the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent its spread in the Republic’s territory,” Denis Pushilin said.
