The main topic of the humanitarian subgroup’s meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement of the situation in Donbass was the discussion of the lists of persons subject to the exchange. Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR Darya Morozova said that the meeting of the subgroup had not brought any results.
“We once again reminded the Ukrainian side about the need to carry out the verification procedure. Many of the detainees have not been offered to participate in the exchange process.
In addition, despite the fact that at the previous meetings the subgroup was discussing the mandatory condition of providing guarantees of procedural “cleansing” to those subject to the exchange, the official Kiev has not taken any action in this matter. The principled position of the Republic is that the Ukrainian side should make a decision on the release of persons subject to the exchange from criminal punishment for the purpose of protection and enjoyment of human rights,” the Ombudsperson informed.
She also called on the Ukrainian side to show political will and initiative to unblock the process and start real actions towards the procedure of release of detainees.
