Ukraine’s parliament has extended the law on the special status of Donbass and 320 deputies voted Yes. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Donetsk People’s Republic Natalya Nikonorova commented on this event.
“Although the Ukrainian parliament has extended the nominal validity of the law on the special status of Donbass until the end of next year, its essential provisions still remain disabled. In fact, this law has never been in force, since the ex-government intentionally introduced preconditions into it for its entry-into-force, which fundamentally contradicts the Complex of Measures.
We again draw your attention to the fact that the prolongation of the nominal first article of the law on the special status is not enough alone. In order to fully implement the political part of the Complex of Measures in coordination with the representatives of the Republics, Kiev has to carry out a series of measures: implement Steinmeier’s Formula into the wording of this act, remove preconditions disabling the operation of the law, amend it in order to bring it into line with the current Ukrainian legislation, and implement a constitutional reform to make the special status permanent.
At the same time, we remind the Ukrainian side that shortly before in Paris, president Zelensky personally and officially confirmed not only his commitment to the Minsk Agreements, but also Ukraine’s readiness to agree with us on all legal aspects of the special status of Donbass,” Natalya Nikonorova said.
