In 2019, humanitarian missions accredited in the Republic provided targeted assistance to more than 2,000 social and residential facilities damaged in hostilities, Ruslan Teryayev, the Director of the Construction Industry Development Department of the DPR Construction Ministry, said on January 16.

“The humanitarian missions accredited in the Republic (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, International Committee of the Red Cross) provide us with significant support in the reconstruction process. A total of about 2,280 households received assistance in 2019 in the form of issuing building materials or performing construction works. This figure will still be adjusted upward, as some of the construction materials were provided by humanitarian missions directly to local councils engaged in their distribution,” Ruslan Teryayev said.

To date, 77 houses have been renovated as part of the ongoing programme for reconstruction of residential houses affected by the hostilities, implemented with the support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. It should be recalled that within the framework of this programme in the near future it is planned to restore approximately 225 houses with a 30% or higher degree of destruction in various localities exposed to shelling. The works began last fall. When choosing objects, the priority is given to disadvantaged population groups.

“After the New Year holidays, works at the objects were resumed on January 3. To date, 77 houses have been repaired. The works at a number of other objects are at the final stage,” Ruslan Teryayev said.

The representative of the agency also recalled that the construction of 10 one-story single-family houses was started in the Shakhtyorsky district under the programme of the International Red Cross Committee last fall. To date, 3 houses in the village of Marinovka have already been built, works at 7 houses in the village of Stepanovka are underway.
