World Cancer Day is marked internationally on February 4. Its aim is to draw public attention to this global problem, raise public awareness and encourage its prevention, early finding and treatment of this disease. According to a correspondent of the DPR Official Website, the Republic Medical Research Library of Donetsk hosted a roundtable meeting dedicated to the diagnostics and prevention of cancer. The meeting was organized by the Republic Health Center affiliated with the DPR Health Ministry
The event was attended by stand-in republic specialist in oncology from the DPR Ministry of Health Igor Sedakov, deputy of the DPR People’s Council and chairman of the Committee on Health, Maternity and Child Protection Alexander Avdeyev, chief of the Republic Health Center Tatiana Yozhikova and others. During the discussion, the specialists in the field of cancer drew attention to the fact that it is possible to prevent up to 40% of cancer cases through healthy living and abstinence from tobacco and other harmful substances, as well as through daily physical activity, balanced nutrition, etc.
Following the event, the participants in the roundtable meeting adopted a resolution providing for important areas and activities, such as ensuring the diagnostics and prevention of malignant neoplasms at the early stages; serologic and cytological examinations; the ongoing sharing of experience; the research and practical cooperation with leading oncologists of the Russian Federation etc.
