On Sunday of March 8, on the occasion of the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, activists of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement conducted a parade in honor of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War Maria I. Gorkovenko, who turns one hundred in April this year.
During the Great Patriotic War, in the midst of hostilities, Maria Gorkovenko, risking her life, was giving medical care to wounded soldiers, taking them out of the battlefield, and then dispatching them by hospital train to the Caucasus for further recovery and rehabilitation. For her valiant and brave service, Maria Gorkovenko was awarded a 2nd-class Order of the Great Patriotic War and jubilee medals.
The event was attended by Secretary of the Donetsk Republic Public Movement’s local branch, Head of Kirovsky District’s Administration Yuri Budrin, DPR People’s Council deputies Sergei Telnykh, Konstantin Kuzmin and Alexander Khryakov, DRPM and Young Republic activists, the Deputy Heads of District’s Administration, military students from Donetsk Higher All-Troops Command College, Donetsk Internal Affairs Academy and Civil Defense Academy under the Emergencies Ministry, cadets and Yunarmiya members.
“Today, on March 8, we are especially pleased and honored to congratulate you, a woman of great courage and humanity. We hope you feel daily care and attention of your relatives, citizens and the whole state. We wish you good health, happiness, wellbeing and kindness! Cheer us up with your presence for as long as possible,” those present wished.
Ceremonial crews of cadets, military students and Yunarmiya members marched to the songs of war years in the ceremonial parade in honor of Maria Gorkovenko. Touching poems and words of gratitude for the heroic feat she performed during the Great Patriotic War were expressed by cadets, a student from School 93 and a pupil from the Palace of Children’s and Youth Creativity.
During the event, Maria Gorkovenko got presents and flowers from People’s Council MPs, Kirovsky District’s Administration, representatives of the District Council of Veterans, and military students.
