On May 7, the AFU engaged Sakhanka in violation of the international humanitarian law prohibiting attacks on civilian objects and indiscriminate attacks during combat operations, DPR Commissioner for Human Rights Darya Morozova stated.
Five civilians suffered injuries of varying degrees of severity during the attack. This case violates the rules of the Geneva Convention, Article 3 Paragraph 1 as of August 12, 1949, on the protection of civilians in wartime.
“The actions of the AFU not only undermine the agreement on indefinite ceasefire, which entered into force on July 21, 2019, but also directly endanger the lives of civilians in Donbass.
I have sent appeals to international organizations on this case. I call on the world community to make a proper legal assessment of Ukraine’s actions and to use all available means to prevent further escalation of the conflict and return to peaceful dialogue in the Minsk negotiation process. I hope that the use of prohibited methods of warfare by the armed formations of Ukraine will not remain without attention of the international community,” the statement reads.
