In April 2019, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed the Order that defines categories of individuals entitled to apply for Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure for humanitarian purposes. This document enabled the residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics to acquire Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure, the DPR Internal Affairs Ministry’s Public Relations Centre reports.
As of 6 June this year, 121,084 residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have applied for Russian citizenship. A total of 107,081 Russian passports have been issued; prior to the introduction of anti-COVID-19 measures, 91,999 DPR residents became Russian citizens.
In addition, according to the law adopted in April 2020, people who permanently reside in DPR and LPR territories are exempted from paying the state duty when applying for Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure.
33 local offices accept documents today. Additional offices have opened up in Zugres, Ilovaysk and Mospino.
Offices accepting documents for a Russian passport are also stationed at central post offices in Donetsk, Makeyevka and Gorlovka.
