On June 22, in violation of the international humanitarian law prohibiting attacks on civilian objects and indiscriminate attacks, the armed forces of Ukraine fired at the village of Aleksandrovka when conducting combat operations, DPR Commissioner for Human Rights Darya Morozova issued a statement in this regard.

The Ombudsman reminded that a man born 1975 was killed during the attack.

“Two other civilians came under fire together with the victim. Despite numerous requests for access to the victim, Ukrainian military kept firing at the village. Only this morning we managed to get ceasefire guarantees from Ukraine. The victim and two civilians were evacuated from the scene at 8:40, after which the armed forces of Ukraine resumed firing at the village of Aleksandrovka with SPGs,” Darya Morozova said.

She stressed that they violated Part 1 Article 3 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949. The actions of the AFU undermine the agreement on the indefinite ceasefire, which entered into force on 21 July 2019, and threaten the lives of civilians in Donbass.

“I have sent appeals to international organizations. I call on the world community to give a proper legal assessment of Ukraine’s actions and to use all available means to prevent further escalation of the conflict and return to peace dialogue within the Minsk negotiation process. I hope that the use of prohibited methods of warfare by the armed forces of Ukraine will not remain unnoticed by the international community,” Darya Morozova stated.
