Today, on July 15, the residents of Snezhnoye honored the memory of the innocent victims of the air strike that Ukrainian air forces launched on the town six years ago. Hundreds of residents of Snezhnoye came to the four-storey apartment building on Lenina Street and laid flowers at the place of the tragedy, a correspondent of the Official Website of the Donetsk People’s Republic reports from the scene.
“This was a tragic event in the life of Snezhnoye. On July 15, 2014, Ukrainian militants crossed the line and attacked the peaceful sleeping town. 12 people were killed. That was a tragedy of each of us, a tragedy of the whole Republic,” mayor of Snezhnoye Alexander Skvortsov said.
“We were all asleep and couldn’t hear the plane dropping a bomb on us. My father survived, two slabs at once fell on my mother. As I lay there, I was yelling “help me, help me!”, so people heard my voice. Mom died…” shared his memories Bogdan Skvortsov, a boy aged ten whom rescuers got from under the debris of the destroyed house.
The apartment building at 14 Lenina Street has been rebuilt; the shell, core and utilities are restored. Once the interior furnishing is completed, the reconstruction work will be over.
