Gorlovka residents have prepared the first lawsuits to file with the European Court of Human Rights, demanding that the Ukrainian authorities compensate for the damage in the amount of about 6 million rubles, Chair of the Public Commission for assessing the economic damage caused by Ukraine Anastasia Butorkina informed.

“The commission held another meeting today. Citizens living at 105 Pobedy Avenue, Gorlovka, turned to us. This is a five-story building with three entrances, located in the central city district midmost a densely populated neighborhood. Before the beginning of the hostilities, 85 people lived in the building, now there are 44 people left, they intend to file lawsuits with the European Court of Human Rights against Ukraine in order to compensate for the damage caused by the hostilities,” Anastasia Butorkina said.

It is specified that a shell direct hit to the enclosing reinforced concrete wall panel of a staircase in the entrance No. 2 resulted in damage to the main supporting structures: wall panels, stairwell landing and staircases on the 3rd and 4th floors, the enclosing wall panel is completely destroyed. Window and door units, partitions, wall cladding, the interior are damaged in several apartments.

“The total amount of damage makes 5 million 790 thousand rubles,” the Chairperson emphasized.

We shall remind you that in late 2019, an initiative group of DPR and LPR citizens formed a public commission to assess economic damage caused by Ukraine. 19 members joined the commission. Member of the DPR Bar Council Anastasia Butorkina was elected its Chair.
