The last Saturday series of the radio show In full Swing on January 11 was dedicated to the tragic date in the history of Christianity. On this day, the Orthodox Church pays homage to fourteen thousand babies killed in Bethlehem by order of king Herod. The guest of the radio show, DPR People’s Council deputy Alexander Malkov, shared his opinion on the significance of this event in the context of modern times and the consequences of the religious schism in Ukraine.

“As for the killing of 14 thousand babies, this terrible event was a revenge for their power. This phenomenon has repeatedly manifested itself over two thousand years and continues today. Those who interfere with the power always try to take revenge, and many children have been killed in the territory of our Republic only because we confront those who fight for power. Children have suffered at all times, we remember the baby of Gorlovka.

The cornerstone of today’s sermon after the service in the church was the topic of abortion and struggle for children’s lives. If a person has been conceived, he or she has a soul and not letting it be born in a human body is a great sin. The main thing in the chaos that is happening now in Ukraine is that people forget traditions and fight for their power,” Alexander Malkov said.

He also noted that there is an organization in the DPR that helps women who have faced a hard choice: abortion or child.

“From a legal point of view, an amorphous concept was enshrined in the law in Ukraine back in the 1990s, and all church matters were addressed at the administrational scale. If it agrees on the charter, it means that the registration can be executed. As a result, corruption has absorbed the sphere of registration of religious organizations. That is why Ukraine has more sects than the whole of Europe. The amorphous law in Ukraine allowed everyone without exception to recruit believers to their organizations, which they consider to be religious.

But the essence of the issue is that the religious schism happened as early as 1991. On the background of the existing law in Ukraine, registering the Kiev Patriarchate was not a problem.

The Kiev Patriarchate was forcibly removed by administrative decision in summer 2019. Filaret is categorically ranged against it. Later on, he announced the reinstatement of the Kiev Patriarchate and began ordaining to the priesthood. People like him fight until they are carried with their feet first. He wants to show that the Orthodox Church of Ukraine is an illegitimate church,” Alexander Malkov stated.
