The draft law that regulates the volume of education provided in the national language at state-run, municipal and corporate institutions, passed by the Verkhovna Rada on January 16, has ruined all the hopes for justice of the Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine, DPR People’s Council deputy and director of the Musical and Drama Theater Natalya Volkova stated.

“Some voters believed Zelensky’s claims that the language law would be revised and that oppression because of ethnic descent would end. It is now clear that the new president is continuing the old political line in terms of education.

Beginning on September 2020, all Russian schools will have to switch to the Ukrainian language. National minorities, whose languages are not official in the EU, will get at least 80 percent of the annual training under the programs of basic and specialized secondary education in the state language.

Now, in the process of education, children will fall into privileged and unprivileged castes, where Ukrainian will be the criterion. This shows that Zelensky continues Poroshenko’s nationalist policy, which has already led to the conflict in Donbas. The new president of Ukraine turned out to be no better than the former one in this matter, he honors the followers of the German Nazism, continues desovietization, discriminates against the Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine. The experience has proved that such a policy inevitably leads to the loss of voters’ trust and, as a result, to the inglorious end of the political career,” Volkova emphasized.
