On Wednesday of February 5, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the DPR, Daria Morozova, stated that the territory of Gorlovka had undergone mortar shelling by Ukrainian armed formations.

“Not to mention that this is a direct violation of the Geneva Convention, namely, Article 13, concerning the protection of civilians, it is horrifying under fire there came a school in which a bomb shelter was located. By a lucky chance, none of the six persons then present in the shelter were injured. At the moment, due to the fact that explosive objects are still located in the territory of the educational institution, a group of deminers is working on the site.

The actions of the AFU not only undermine the agreement on the indefinite ceasefire, which came into effect on 21 July 2019, but also pose a direct threat to the life of Donbass civilians. Such steps can be regarded either as the inability of the Ukrainian leadership to influence their own armed forces, or as their direct approval of violating the international humanitarian law.

Anyway, I will duly inform international human rights organizations with a view to prevent further violations of human rights and freedoms. The DPR is abiding by its commitments in the conflict’s peaceful settlement, and if the state of Ukraine stands in solidarity with us in this concern, all the perpetrators of this crime will be held accountable,” Daria Morozova said.
