Today, on March 7, the host of the “In full swing” program aired by the Respublika radio, Maya Pirogova, discussed with the episode’s guests, DPR People’s Council deputy Irina Popova and journalist and blogger Elena Subbotina, the history of the International Women’s Day celebration and the attempt to abolish it in Ukraine. A number of other issues were raised as well, a correspondent of the DPR Official Website reports.

“The holiday of March 8 has a much deeper meaning. It is not just International Women’s Day, it is a symbol of women’s struggle for their rights, equality with men and better life,” Irina Popova said.

In turn, Elena Subbotina added that attempts to abolish the celebration of Women’s Day in Ukraine, as well as the abolition of May 9 and February 23, serve as a way to eliminate the people’s memory of the heroic past.

“The Ukrainian authorities are bending every effort to obliterate the feat performed by Soviet soldiers and to whitewash Bandera. It is also beneficial for their Western curators, because it is easier to make Russia an enemy and fight it with through somebody else’s hands. The person who does not remember their history becomes just a blank sheet, which can be filled with anything,” Elena Subbotina said.
