The meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group’s humanitarian subgroup on the settlement of the situation in Donbass has ended. DPR Commissioner for Human Rights Darya Morozova commented on the outcome of the talks.
“Ukraine has not yet completed the legal clearance of the people formally released and transferred to the DPR in December 2019. In response to my repeated requests, Kiev replied that the issue of terminating criminal prosecution of the persons released was being considered by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, which has not made any procedural decisions.
Such actions make it very difficult for both parties to the conflict to release the remaining detainees,” Morozova noted.
She also called on the Ukrainian side to pay special attention to the agreements reached during the Skype conference held on December 23, 2019 and to start fulfilling their obligations to unlock future prisoner exchanges.
“The Ukrainian side was not able to provide any information on missing persons. I want to emphasize that the Donetsk People’s Republic, following the spirit and the letter of the Minsk Agreements, has confirmed the detention of 15 persons wanted by the Ukrainian party,” the ombudsperson added.
