Citizens of the DPR and the LPR had the opportunity to vote on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, director of the Institute for Political Studies Sergei Markov, Russian political scientist and public figure, commented during an interview with Oplot TV on the significance of this fact and its impact on the life of Donbass.

“The essence of the amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation is primarily the implementation of the experience of Vladimir Putin’s twenty-year presidency. And the second cluster of the amendments means a response to some challenges that time poses in order to protect our legal system from aggressive actions of international organizations that Russia’s geopolitical opponents run. It also involves some social amendments necessary for the population.

Russia’s stability is very beneficial for Donbass, because there will be less pressure from international geopolitical opponents.

The fact that Donbass residents took part in the voting on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation implies another gesture of recognition of the republics. DPR citizens acquire Russian passports, this is a big step that obliges the Russian government to render military support to those citizens of Russia who live in Donbass, if necessary.

I believe that in the near future all of Donbass will be fully integrated into the Russian Federation,” Sergei Markov said.
